Bass Educational Services (BES) was founded by Judy Bass in January 2000, inspired by her personal experiences and a lifelong dedication to education. Judy's journey through special education began in 1965 when her younger brother was diagnosed with Minimal Brain Dysfunction (MBD), one of the early names for ADHD. Witnessing her mother's unwavering advocacy and support for her brother, Judy learned the importance of patience, understanding, and focusing on strengths over weaknesses. This environment shaped her approach to education and inspired her to help others.
At the age of 14, Judy began tutoring students, and that continued throughout high school and college. She discovered that many of her students, like her brother, were intelligent and curious but struggled with traditional learning methods. By making learning interactive and engaging and helping students see their own potential, Judy fostered a passion for identifying and nurturing each student's strengths. Judy's 28-year teaching career, including 14 years as a Montessori-trained instructor, was marked by her ability to connect with students who learned and thought differently. Her classrooms became safe havens for these students, where they could build confidence and achieve academic success.
The catalyst for Judy's transition from educator to educational consultant came while searching for suitable colleges for her daughters, particularly her second daughter who had ADHD and severe social anxiety. Realizing the lack of resources and guidance for parents in similar situations, Judy founded Bass Educational Services to provide specialized support for students who learn differently.
Over the past 24 years, Bass Educational Services (BES) has expanded its focus from college planning to offering a comprehensive range of services tailored to the neurodivergent community. Judy has put together an amazing team of educators and consultants whose mission is to guide students towards independence and young adulthood, helping them navigate their educational journeys with confidence and success.
