Lauren Teta
IEP Consultant & Academic Tutor
Lauren is a special education teacher in Montgomery County Public Schools. She has an undergraduate degree in Cybersecurity from the University of Maryland University College and is currently working on a Master’s degree in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University. Lauren currently teaches in the Learning for Independence (LFI) life skills program for students with intellectual disabilities and Autism.
Her passion for education inclusion started over a decade ago. In high school and college, Lauren spent her summers volunteering for the Extended School Year program in Montgomery County to support students with intellectual disabilities. She found how rewarding working with this population could be, because she helped them learn and develop various life skill routines.
After bouncing around different roles such as mortgage banking, office administration, and medical billing, Lauren found herself unfulfilled and longing for a more rewarding career that aligned with her values and strengths. When the pandemic began, Lauren knew it was time for a career change. With a gentle nudge from her family, she was easily convinced that it was time to enter the school system as a paraeducator. Lauren taught general education inclusion for students in the Learning and Academic Disabilities (LAD) program for students who require various support, strategies, and implementation from a special education teacher. After only a few months, something clicked, and Lauren realized that this is what she wanted to do! She was accepted into the Johns Hopkins University School of Education– Masters of Special Education– specializing in Mild to Moderate Disabilities (Secondary), and she never looked back!
In her spare time, Lauren loves painting, the outdoors, and spending time with her two pups. She believes life is all about balance and prioritizes a holistic approach to life skills, both in and out of the classroom.
