Matt Ruland, M.ED., MWSE
Academic & Executive Functioning Coach

Matt is a dedicated special education teacher employed by Montgomery County Public Schools. He holds an undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and a Master’s degree in Special Education from Johns Hopkins University. Currently, Matt is teaching in the Learning and Academic Disabilities (LAD) program, which caters to students requiring specialized support, strategies, and guidance from a special education teacher.

Following his college years, Matt gained valuable experience working in a Division I football program for a period of four years. After his tenure in football, he sought a change of pace and ventured into the realm of Special Education. During this transition, he took on a position as a Special Education Paraeducator at a school catering to students with emotional disabilities while also dedicating himself to training for an Ironman event. Surprisingly, Matt discovered a passion for working with students with disabilities that rivaled his enthusiasm for winning football games.

After a stint in the business world that was cut short by COVID, Matt committed to pursue teaching as a long-term profession. In 2021, He was accepted into the Johns Hopkins University School of Education, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Special Education with a focus on Mild to Moderate Disabilities in the Secondary setting.

Matt now resides in Baltimore, MD, where he enjoys his leisure time outdoors with his dog, attending baseball games, and preparing for his next race.
